Minimum Requirements
All members must:
- Be 18 years of age
- Contain a valid driver's license
- Have a High School Diploma or an equivalent
- Live within the Brillion Fire District
- Complete Entry Level Fire Fighter 1 and be State Certified within 2 years of joining the department.
- Pass a physical given by the city physician
- Pass a background check
Schooling
All members must successfully complete Entry Level Fire Fighter 1 (60 hours of class) and be state certified (36 hours of class) within 2 years of joining the BFD. Some details are as follows:
- The classes typically meet one night a week for 3 hours.
- Classes are provided by the local technical college and may be housed at local departments (Brillion, Reedsville, Hilbert, etc.)
- All expenses are covered by the Department
Hiring Process
Once an interested candidate completes his/her application and turns it into City Hall, he/she will be contacted by an officer of the department.
The officer will conduct an interview and the candidate will be given a tour of the station.
The officer will introduce the new candidate to the members at the monthly meeting and the department will vote on the new member. Once the candidate is approved, City Hall will also vote on the new candidate.
