Library Frequently Asked Questions

What are the library's hours?
Our normal hours of operation are;
Monday-Thursday 10AM-7PM
Friday 10AM-6PM
Saturday 9AM-Noon
Be sure to check the home page for any holiday closures.

How do I request materials from the online catalog?
Log in with your user id (library card number) and enter your PIN number (the last 4 digits of your home telephone number that is registered at the library.) Once you are logged in, search for the material you are looking for and select, place hold on the item. A confirmation of the hold being placed will come up. You can check "My Account" and view holds placed. Contact the library at 920-756-3215 if you have problems using the online catalog.

How do I request materials not listed in the online catalog? 
Materials not listed in the catalog can be requested through the Interlibrary loan network. You can click the Wiscat icon and create your own request or request it through the module in the catalog. You may send an email to request an item, call the library during hours, or stop in and ask about getting the material from another library. There is no charge for Interlibrary Loan unless photocopies are involved, but please allow time for the material to be sent.

How long may I keep library items?
DVDs and SEEDS bags check out for one week. All other materials may be checked out for three weeks.

Can I renew books?
All items may be renewed if there is no hold on the item. You can renew materials over the phone, online, or in person. Please have your library card number handy for telephone renewals. You are allowed three renewals per item; however, if the item is on hold for another person, the item cannot be renewed.

How many dvds or books may I check out?
There are no  limits on materials that can be checked out from the Brillion Library. We do have a maximum number of 75 items that can be checked out on any card at a time.

What if my books are returned late?
Brillion Public Library is fine free, so there are no daily charges for overdue books. However, once the item is overdue for 35 days, we will bill you for the cost of the item.

I have bills on my card, can I check out items?
If the total is over $10 you may not check out items until the amount owed drops below $10. Library cards expire every eighteen months.

Can I rent a room at the Brillion Public Library?
The Brillion Library offers meeting rooms for public use on a reservation basis. The Library Board meeting room is available during library hours for small group meetings, while a larger group can use the elevator accessible basement. To rent a room, contact the Library during library hours by calling 920-756-3215.

Are computers available for use at the library? 
The Brillion Library offers 5 Internet computers that are linked to both color and black and white printers. To use the Internet computers, users can log in with their library card or request a guest pass.  The Brillion Library also offers a fast wireless network that can be accessed during library hours and Chromebooks to be used inside and outside the library.

How do I renew a book? 
  • Log into the catalog and go to my account. Choose renew my account and renew your materials
  • Call the Library at 920-756-3215 during library hours and request to renew your materials. You will need to have your library card number available.
  • Click the link from the email reminder notice.
  • Call 920-553-6261 and access your account 
  • Come into the library during library hours and request a renewal.
Items that have a hold cannot be renewed! If you have renewed 3 times, or your fines exceed $10, you will not be able to renew the item through the online catalog. Call the library at 920-756-3215 for assistance.
 
How do I get a library card? 
Anyone age 5 or older is eligible to get a library card. The library requires identification and proof of current address. The Brillion Library is a part of a shared system with the Manitowoc, Two River, Chilton, New Holstein, and Kiel Public Libraries. Only one card is necessary to use all 6 of these libraries.

Can I use another library card at this library such as Appleton or Manitowoc? 
 You can use a card from Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Chilton, New Holstein and Kiel at Brillion. If you have an Appleton, Menasha, Neenah, Brown County or any other library card, you will need to register for a Brillion card.

What if I lose my card? 
If you lose your card, come into the library and let us know. We will check to see if the card has been returned to Brillion. We can issue a replacement card, but there is a cost for the card.

Can others use my library card?
Yes, but remember, everything checked out on YOUR card is YOUR responsibility. The library accepts no responsibility to verify that a patron presenting a card is authorized to use it.

What children's programs are offered at the Brillion Public Library? 
The Brillion Library offers Storytimes, Robot Time, and Weekly Lego Club along with summer library programs. Please consult the library website, Facebook page, or The Brillion News for information about upcoming programs.

What programs do you have for young adults?
The Brillion Library offers a summer reading program and Battle of the Books program for young adults. Our Young Adult Book Club meets monthly! Please consult the library website, Facebook page, or The Brillion News for information about upcoming programs.

What programs do you offer for adults at the Brillion Public Library? 
The Brillion Library offers monthly book discussion groups,  author visits, and family programs. Please consult the library website, Facebook page, or The Brillion News for information about upcoming programs.

What services do you offer for teachers?
Teachers can get a special teacher card which provides a six week checkout period. The Library offers tours of the facility, instruction on the card catalog, website, Wiscat, Badgerlink, classroom presentations, class room collections, and storytimes. Teachers of homeschoolers are also eligible for these services.

What equipment does the Brillion Library have available for use or rental?
The Brillion Library has a color copier that scans and saves files, fax machine, computer printers, and a microfilm reader/printer that may be used at the Library. The Library has a laminator and will laminate anything up to 24 inches in size for a fee. Laminating is done on a weekly basis. The Library has a disk cleaner and refinisher that cleans dvds, cds, and cd-roms for the public for a fee.

Can I check out eBooks or download audiobooks?
Yes, the Brillion Library offers checkout of both eBooks and audiobooks through the Wisconsin digital library (Libby.) Click on the Libby link to get started. If you need help getting Libby set up on your device, contact the library. We offer opportunities to get help in using eBooks and downloading audiobooks.

Where do I return borrowed library materials? 
If the library is open, come on in and drop off your materials at the return desk. The Library offers a drive up book drop at the entrance of the parking lot off Park Avenue for use when the Library is closed. Materials, excluding interlibrary loan items may also be dropped off at the Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Chilton, New Holstein or Kiel Public Libraries.

Do you accept donations?
The Library accepts donations. A wish list of suggestions is available. Materials will may be added to the collection or donated to the Friends of the Library book sale. The Library does not accept soiled materials or old magazines.

Can I pay my fees with a credit or debit card?
Yes, you can pay online with your credit or debit card. Go to the classic catalog and log in with your library card number and pin. Once logged in, select my account, and then review my account and then bills. Under bills, it will say pay bills. Select and enter your card information. Contact the library at 920-756-3215 if you have any questions.
